Revision Checklist
Each group should discuss the following questions:
Rough Draft
Does the abstract present a brief overview of the paper?
Does the introduction provide enough background on the issue? Does it outline the history of the issue and identify the groups most affected by the issue? Is the issue clearly defined? Is the thesis (main claim) precisely stated and sufficiently limited?
Are the supporting claims stated clearly? Is each one supported with plenty of clearly cited evidence or thoroughly explained reasons? Have specific examples been provided to illustrate general points? Has the credibility of each authority been established? Has the quality of evidence been confirmed, using the guidelines on the fact feedback questions handout (see Peer Response Guide for fact essay)?
Have opposing arguments been identified and dealt with effectively?
Does the conclusion draw significant conclusions and provide a sense of closure?
Is the paper unified (effectively controlled by the thesis or main claim)?
Have we failed to consider or alienated any potential readers of our paper?
What can we do to make the paper more convincing?
Second Draft
Have we improved our paper with regard to the weaknesses identified in our rough draft?
Have we documented our sources accurately and consistently, according to APA or MLA guidelines?
Are there any sentences that are ambiguous or otherwise confusing?
Do any grammar errors distract the reader?
Have we used appropriate diction? Can we improve the diction in any part of the paper?
Does the paper flow smoothly from sentence to sentence, from paragraph to paragraph, and from one section to the next?
Is the tone of the paper consistent and appropriate for the intended audience and purpose?
Is the style of the paper consistent throughout?
Is our Reference or Works Cited page accurate and complete?
Does the title of the paper identify our position on the issue?
Is the format (title page, margins, pages numbers, etc.) correct, according to style guidelines (APA or MLA)?
What changes must the proofreader make before submitting the "final" draft?
Group Paper Checklist
The group paper will be submitted in your final project folder, which will also contain the three claims essays and their revisions. Make sure that your group paper includes the following:
Title Page
Abstract
Paper (15-20 pages)
Works Cited (MLA) or References (APA)
Project Binder Checklist
The project binder must be clearly organized and neatly presented. Please use dividers to separate the assignment sections. The binder grade will be based on completeness (see list below) and presentation. Each member's section will receive an individual grade, which will be averaged with the group section grade.
The group section will include the following (in the order listed):
Eight page proposal guide (brainstorming sheets)
Prospectus (draft and corrected version)
Preliminary annotated bibliography
Final annotated bibliography
The rough draft
The second draft (and any additional drafts)
Panel presentation plan
Critique
Each group member's section will include the following (in the order listed):
GROUP PROJECT 102 planning sheet
Copies of articles used
Summaries of articles used
Prewriting for individual section(s)
Drafts of supporting argument(s)
Other preliminary parts you were individually responsible for
Argument for grade
NOTE: The assessment of group performance is confidential and must be turned in to me separately.
Critique of Final Project
Your critique must include the following two sections.
Part 1: Summary
Explain the paper's purpose and how it was written. Briefly summarize the content, including only the paper's main point and supporting ideas.
Part 2: Critical Reaction
Point out the strengths and weaknesses of the paper.
How strong is the support for the main claim?
Is the evidence sufficient, up-to-date, and relevant?
 Are the arguments sound?
Has the writer established the credibility of the sources?
Has the opposing view been addressed?
What can the writer do to build a stronger argument?
Is the type of appeal used (logos, ethos, pathos) effective for this topic? Which type of appeal might have been more effective? Why?
Look at organization, diction, and sentence structure. Do they contribute to the success of the paper or do they distract the reader?
Group Project Presentation
The idea is to explain the issue and present your findings and conclusion. How you do it is up to you. For example, you may present a panel discussion, a role-play, or a class activity. Each group member must actively participate.
The audience will fill out an evaluation slip for each presentation.
